Both the infrequency and tone of my newsletters has changed due largely to stress. I’m faced with a move in 6 weeks, have repeatedly been frustrated by potential rentals that get me excited then they get withdrawn from the market for various reasons. Caregiving duties have multiplied too. And I’m getting a bit of an attitude, esp about these fascists and know-nothings/do nothings everywhere on social media and from the GOP members of our government. The latter only looks for ways to sabotage Democrats, hurt the middle class and poor, while offering more handouts to the mega wealthy.
I’m just done with them all. If Dems and independents simply show up and vote in great numbers in 2024, we can wrest control away and make permanent changes to our government like ending the Senate filibuster permanently, getting a Supreme Court that has enforceable ethics rules, passing the ERA and ending SCOTUS terms at 30 years on the bench and not allowing House or Senate reelection campaigns to occur after the age of 85 as well.
If you want more young people voting, as I do, get younger people on the ballot. Us older voters won’t abandon the effort.
Get it together folks or watch the world burn, along with your kids and grandkids.
In my previous newsletter, I wrote of Daily Salinas, the young mother trying to ban books at a Miami area elementary school, who also got Amanda Gorman’s inauguration poem moved from the school her kids attend.
After she was identified by the Miami Herald, several people went sleuthing. I added the red underlines to this new article for emphasis.
Some of this I expected. I presumed she was a young Cuban-American who was opposed to the dictator Fidel Castro, who overthrew the corrupt Cuban dictator, Fulgencio Batista, in 1959. She’s too young to have much direct memory of Castro and she has none about Batista. The internet sleuths discovered she’s an anti-Semitic who pals around with the proud boys, other hate groups, traffics in really really really stupid conspiracy theories that a 5 year old would recognize as really really really stupid.
We’ve all seen the story before: dumb people getting their 15 minutes of fame. She got books pulled from a public school that she admits she didn’t read. She even says “I’m not a reader”. But that’s not on her, it’s on the review committee and school board. Those are the folks who’ve gotta go. They moved books around because a non-reader made assumptions about books that aren’t true.
Maybe you and I should be sitting on more of these boards before the insane and the dumb and indifferent harbingers of hate have us trained to be terminally stupid hate promoters like DJ Trump.
Speaking of hate, on Monday, a little north of Bend, Oregon…
A dead raccoon and a sign with racist and “intimidating language” was left on the front door of an Oregon mayor’s office Monday, authorities said.
Redmond Police Department detectives responded to a call from Redmond Mayor Ed Fitch at around 8 a.m. local time, Redmond police said in a news release. Fitch found the dead animal with a sign mentioning Fitch and Black city councilor Clifford Evelyn by name.
“Based on the content of the sign's message and the dead raccoon this is being investigated as a potential bias crime in the 2nd degree,” police said in the news release.
Fitch said the message on the sign was “racially hateful,” The Bulletin reported.
“I feel bad for Clifford. It seems there’s some people in town that can’t accept the fact that Clifford is Black and is on the City Council,” he told the publication.
And it’s likely that this is a hate crime too. The perp had ongoing disputes for 2-1/2 years with the victim, before lying and invoking the Stand Your Ground defense. But surveillance cameras proved she was lying.
Whether a hate crime or not has yet to be ascertained but it certainly suggests way more than manslaughter.

Trump and Burgum are billionaires and Ramaswamy a half-billionaire. Despite some backing fro Peter Thiel and JD Vance, Ramaswamy comes across as an anti-regulation libertarian who’s only in it to juice up his portfolio.
Pence has some evangelical support but much of the MAGA crowd would readily hang him still, especially with his fresh critique of Trump (he called him ‘unfit’ to be president again.) Scott and Haley will split the South Carolina primary vote but both lack national support besides GOP tokenism. Christie’s too anti Trump to gain enough support.
So the oldest trio and DeSantis stand the best chance of emerging from the pack. Trump’s legal woes could knock him from the top spot. DeSantis as a campaigner has the charisma of lukewarm hominy with extra wax. Hutchinson and Burgum lack a national base but they can be warmer and more humorous. If Trump gets knocked off his roost by prosecutors, these other three are the ones to watch.
On the Democratic side, Biden only has to stay healthy to be renominated. If his health falters, more established politicians are sure to jump in since the current contenders can’t win a Democratic nomination.
BUT THE BIG NEWS is that a grand jury is close to a vote on indicting ex-president Trump in the classified documents case... and violation(s) of the Espionage Act. The vote could come in the next two days and Trump has been notified he’s the criminal target in that. Even if delayed that vote will come no later than June 15th. Legal analysts were surprised that a Florida Grand Jury has been listening to testimony from multiple witnesses and that charges may be brought there.
Dominoes certain to fall afterward include the Fulton County Georgia prosecution (highly likely in July) and further actions at the federal level for the January 6 insurrection and other efforts made to steal the 2020 election, which I’d also look for in July.
Looks like we all get the long awaited Trumpaloney sammich now.
