Democracy Fails when the Mainstream Media decides Celebrity Fluff requires more attention than another Government Coverup
Justice cannot be for one side alone, but must be for both. ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
The news cycle moves fast but people paying attention at the time of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing were outraged back then. Because:
1) The FBI set up a tip line which thousands responded to.
2) But Mitch McConnell insisted on a speedy confirmation, and
3) Trump sharply limited the number of witnesses the FBI could interview.
That’s how a president can weaponize the DOJ. I can’t recall any Democratic president directing the DOJ to go after a political opponent or to prevent a thorough investigation. The GOP claims that Obama did, to take down Trump but Obama pursued an investigation into Putin’s efforts to influence the 2016 election as any president should to prevent foreign influence in our elections.
It was the report of a British spy - not Obama - that started connecting Putin to Trump. Eventually, the Mueller report and other sources indicated Russia was trying to get Trump elected, that troubling connections occurred between Trump operatives and Russian connections but because of the Fifth Amendment and the inability to question the Russians involved, Mueller couldn’t gain enough evidence to obtain convictions. It wasn’t stated as proof of non-collusion by Mueller. And it’s hardly the first time federal prosecutors were stymied in efforts to prosecute criminals.
After all, taking down Al Capone ran into lots of uncooperative witnesses about the murders he ordered, so they had to take him down based on tax crimes.
Trump weaponized the DOJ to go after opponents, to go after the investigators in the FBI and now his elected supporters want to abolish the FBI and the IRS, the two agencies that have been the anchors in the long fight against organized crime.
Nixon weaponized the DOJ through John Mitchell against anti-war protesters. So did Reagan (Edwin Meese) and George W. Bush (Alberto Gonzalez), against people opposed to the nuclear arms race and the War on Iraq.
So now it’s news again about Kavanaugh’s sexual attack crimes b/c of a movie? (which you oughta read)… and another movie awaiting release will show how Ohio Representative Jim Jordan covered up sex crimes when he was a university wrestling coach.
The mainstream media is partly at fault for not pursuing both cases better and longer. They also did a terrible job covering the recent campaign of newly elected Rep. George Santos whose resume is now being filled out in place of the extraordinary lies he told to get elected last November. He’s the most unknown candidate for federal office in history as more keeps coming out about his trail of deceit, fraud and crimes. The NY Times can’t even cover NY news?
At his best, man is the noblest of all animals; separated from law and justice he is the worst. ~ Aristotle
Trump helped cover up Kavanaugh’s sex crimes to stack the SCOTUS with zealots so now we have a predator defining our nation’s laws.
Now there is no real justice nor guaranteed rights for all citizens in this country. The courts demonstrate more and more that the interests of the wealthy among men must be protected above all others. Because powerful crime bosses control it and the mainstream media just doesn’t seem to care enough to pursue stories to satisfactory conclusions like several did in the Watergate era.
The strange ex-president caught heat last month for meeting with a white nationalist (Nick Fuentes) and an anti-semite (Ye) and his staff indicated they’d vet people coming into contact with Trump better in the future. This is better?
Mobster Merlino finished his last federal prison sentence in 2020. ‘Better’ vetting and ‘better’ justice; this is ‘great again’ for one part of America, the part the SCOTUS protected against the winning presidential candidate in 2000, against campaign finance sunshine laws in 2010 (Citizens United) and in overturning Roe v. Wade last year. The SCOTUS that won’t require a member to recuse himself from decisions about Trump even after his spouse gets heavily involved in the illegal effort to prevent the peaceful transfer of power in a democratic election.
Will the Fraudfather & the Godfather be the GOP ticket in 2024? Don’t even ask how low this guy can go because the answer is always ‘lower’.
Speaking of investigations, this guy testified before a grand jury Friday.
”McEntee worked as a personal aide for Trump and as the director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office. McEntee’s dual roles landed him in a number of small and potentially critical meetings around the election, shown during a lengthy and at times sprawling interview with the House select committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.
As the Justice Department ramps up its investigations, McEntee may be able to shed light on Trump’s thinking around the 2020 election as well as provide information on how Trump handled government documents while in the White House.
When testifying to the House committee, McEntee recalled a meeting in the Oval Office on Vice President Mike Pence’s role in certifying the election, in which he said he was asked to look into precedent. McEntee also recounted in-person exchanges between Trump and Pence, in which he heard Trump say, “Michael, do the right thing,” and “Do what you think is right, Mike.”
McEntee also said he had witnessed Trump tear up documents after he was done with them.
At that time, McEntee said his legal fees were being paid by the Trump PAC.”
Deep researcher Marcy Wheeler provides additional background on McEntee and finds his credibility lacking. That he was under consideration for a Trump pardon raises the most obvious question: what was he involved in to create that consideration?
Shorter news bytes…..
Constitution loving insurrectionist doesn’t know the third amendment. Without googling, do you?
Three active duty Marines just got arrested for participating in the insurrection. Reports say the trio were skilled in ‘intelligence’ but I remain completely skeptical.
And Brooke Shields gets a lotta Sundance love for her autobiographical documentary tackling topics like early age sexualization, postpartum depression and telling Tom Cruise to go f*** himself.
Randy Rainbow unloads all the expletives on the House and its new Speaker.
But have heart. Can a fresh generation rebuild what’s been broken? I hope so.
