After experiencing the hottest recorded temperature in Eugene, Oregon yesterday, at 108.5, I can say unequivocally that the summer lovers have it all wrong. Summer is not superior to winter, nor is the opposite true. Each has its plus and minus moments. Each is necessary to life as we know it in all its forms. And each provides extreme moments that test our capacities to live and thrive.
White hats are not always heroes, nor black hats always the villains. They only signify one’s tastes in hats. White ones reflect more light. Black ones absorb more light.
Daylight is not better than night. Each has its purpose. You cannot thrive without sleep or your moments of consciousness. Each is critical to your best health. And even plants need light to convert its food and its dark to sleep to be able to grow and to produce seed.
Spring and Autumn have their beautiful moments, too. And their moments for Plantings and harvests and birds heading north or south with the seasons. Would you claim to be an Autumn Supremacist when it means you just have to continue permanently with no birds?
Life requires all of. Light and darkness, hot and cold and warm and cool, seed and growth and harvest and hibernation and decay. It requires moments of extreme experiences that make us say oh shit or oh fuck or Jesus Kee-rist until the extremeness is gone, replaced by pleasance and wonder and rest.
And clothing is around to get you through every day and season, every dawn and sunset and midnight and noon. And only you get to choose what is dirty and why and how. Which makes you no better or worse than anyone else.
Unless you decide to wear that one really ugly thing called hate.
See for yourself what hate looks like.
It looks like shit.
You cannot censor the light of day, the twilight, the darkness or any fresh dawning. You’ll just look incredibly foolish trying to do so.
You look much better wearing that gold necklace again and again and again. Even the birds and the plants and meteorologists will smile when they think of the times you wore that.
