“Evil comes from a failure to think. It defies thought for as soon as thought tries to engage itself with evil and examine the premises and principles from which it originates, it is frustrated because it finds nothing there. That is the banality of evil.”
― Hannah Arendt
We could start with a pedophilia group of well-knowns when discussing banality of evil. Xeni Jardin of Boing Boing has seen these things coming for awhile.
But today, let’s not go there. It’s Mother’s Day. Time to celebrate our Moms and the Moms wh came before, so….
Let’s celebrate the scientific champions who’ve saved countless lives.
And celebrate the millions of moms globally who quit or adjusted their jobs to care for the family in this pandemic, sometimes home schooling, plus an unending litany of chores amid a caterwauling household of people she/they no longer wants to be related to.
And no, it’s definitely racist to refer to it as the Karenivirus. It completely diminishes the entire race of Karens who actually built this entire country with the force of their snide dismissals of their lessers. Their two major cultural practices include wondering aloud why you won’t peel their grapes and trying to get you arrested for it.
Let’s celebrate all the reunions where we can socialize again just to see how many people whose names we can remember and still wonder why we were friends in the first place.
Let’s celebrate the fact that we have a national leader who created a team that’s rolled out vaccines at a record pace, passed a rescue package that’s helped save millions from fingernail financial distress, helped save businesses and bring some stability to our national economy. A team that’s starting the process of reuniting over a thousand families broken by bad policies. A guy who seems to understand that the minimum wage is a terribly cruel joke since it hasn’t been changed in more than a dozen years. A guy who wants our healthcare to be a right and wants fresh educational options affordable to any wishing to improve their fortunes.
A man who intends to find a way to repair and rebuild a crumbling physical infrastructure while bringing an interstate virtual highway system to every door. And just a man who doesn’t revel in bullying anyone.
Let’s celebrate all the ways moms improved our lives including those who made plenty of sacrifices to do so. And celebrate the many times my Dad reminded me that Mom had to endure holey underwear to keep us fed and clothed.
Let’s also celebrate daily motivationals that succeed.
And celebrate Moms who think it’s true that their kids’ lives matter. Because all of our lives really do matter, to high performance Moms.
Oh sure, there’s cards and flowers and candies and the standard Mom’s day stuff we can celebrate them with, but now, with the pandemic finally declining in all 50 states, there’s one best way to celebrate them. With a plain old hug.
