Of life as it is, of rape as it was and of great minds blaming the public for their attempts to legalize their perfidy
LIFE AS IT IS
Found out in late January my living situation was gonna change this summer. It’s been up and down since because a perfect place was offered then the owner decided not to rent it at all.
I can’t go into other details presently, but it’s weighed on me a lot, juggling caregiving, writing, searching, doing some PT for an occasionally annoying knee while several great friends are dealing with life threatening stuff. One longtime friend had a stroke, was recovering…. but now can’t recognize me when I phone…. and apparently can’t recognize family now, as well.
Reality means I’m looking over my shoulder more, as well.
Just posted this. In two years, I should be close to getting a subsidized apt. I just know I’m not liking moving so much. Just let me find the spot I can stay in for 10 years unless Death knocks first.
RAPE AS IT WAS
I did not know her background before but she’s clearly got her wits about her. As with most violent sex crimes, it’s hard to prove w/o first person witnesses. But she’s believable so I hope she gets some justice. He ruined her intimate life for decades.
‘GREAT’ MINDS UNABLE TO SEE
Sammy Alito is pissed. He thinks he knows some lefty leaked his opinion but can’t name them because ‘insufficient evidence’. Now he has to be driven around in a ‘tank’ with police in tow. But he says:
“the public should question the court’s legitimacy “if they see that what we are doing is not following the Constitution and the laws.”
But he defended the court’s willingness to overturn legal precedents, saying some cases, such as Roe and the court’s follow-up decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, “are so egregiously wrong, so clearly wrong, that that’s a very strong factor in support of overruling them.”
Well Sammy. it’s egregiously wrong, so clearly wrong to take away rights from all women that men retain. You’re stuck on precedents in case law but most people view rights as things they possessed before governments started governmenting. That may be inaccurate but nobody cares if it’s incorrect. It doesn’t matter if the rights came from a god or out of thin air or years of carefully constructed case law arguments.
Laws are fair or unfair; that’s what matters to the public.
That didn’t meet your personal desire to overthrow Roe the first minute you had a shot at winning that outcome, so it’s fine that you overruled what 2 out of 3 Americans wanted. Now you can sense some of the hatred directed at you that women have had to deal with for centuries - without tanks and bodyguards. And whine all you want about it being annoying but it’s not the same as having your entire life subverted by people in robes and politicians in chambers. We’re the people who have to pick up the pieces of families destroyed by your quaint decisions. We include the women forced to bear sick and dead fetuses now, the women carrying their rapists’ fetuses, the little girls carrying the fetuses of the stepdads and granddads who raped them.
We’re looking forward to whatever twists you can construct to justify the destruction of the FDA to suit your religious beliefs next.
That’s reality. No tanks. No cops. Just the burdens imposed on women by generations of indifferent men. Cruel men. Men who think they’ll base case law on precise arguments of authority with zero fucks given for the effect on existing human lives.
Your opinions suck. Your religious beliefs suck. Your donors suck. Your ethics are a fraud. The Roberts court will go down in history as one of the dumbest-ass courts in US history. Embrace your legacy of suckiness, indifference and cruelty.
You corrected your idea of an egregious wrong and thousands of women will die as a result. Hundreds of thousands will be forced into entirely different lives than the ones they wanted to choose. It must feel wonderful to maintain the conviction that you are more moral than anyone else when it’s glaringly clear to the public you disdain that you are just plain old stupid.
You say “the public should question the court’s legitimacy “if they see that what we are doing is not following the Constitution and the laws.”
You get to say what the public gets to question but nobody cares because we’ll question far more. The Constitution is not a religious decree. When the Constitution and laws advance unequal rights, they become as vital as pre-used toilet paper.
Lives and families matter far more than your twisted ideas and when laws stray too far from that, the law is an ass borne by asses. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Justice Thomas is on the take from a Crow. His wife would overturn legal elections by all definitions of ‘legal’ and he won’t recuse. Justice Gorsuch didn’t disclose a real estate buyer that he profited from who regularly has business before your ‘august’ body of Spanish Inquisitionists. Justice Kavanaugh’s nomination was rushed through by a corrupt president who wouldn’t let the FBI consider all the available evidence nor all of the witnesses bearing it and we still don’t know how he paid off his hundreds of thousands in debts.
And now we learn that Chief Justice Roberts’ wife has no obligation to disclose the $10.3 million in commissions she was paid by corporations and law firms for finding pricey lawyers to work for them over an 8 year period.
"When I found out that the spouse of the chief justice was soliciting business from law firms, I knew immediately that it was wrong," the whistleblower, Kendal B. Price, who worked alongside Jane Roberts at the legal recruiting firm Major, Lindsey & Africa, told Insider in an interview. "During the time I was there, I was discouraged from ever raising the issue. And I realized that even the law firms who were Jane's clients had nowhere to go. They were being asked by the spouse of the chief justice for business worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and there was no one to complain to. Most of these firms were likely appearing or seeking to appear before the Supreme Court. It's natural that they'd do anything they felt was necessary to be competitive."
Roberts' apparent $10.3 million in compensation puts her toward the top of the payscale for legal headhunters.
History is full of atrocities committed by tyrants who made the atrocities perfectly ‘legal’ first. Legal is not the same as moral or sensible or pragmatic. You claim the current climate comes because a conservative court got seated which is pretty dismissive, like the opposition is driven by political animosity. It can’t possibly be because the court majority stripped the majority of the public - women - of equal rights to control what occurs with their bodies, their health and their lives, which they don’t view as ‘political’ but ‘personal’.
The SCOTUS ethics laws are flawed, insufficient and unenforced. But do go on, Sammy. It helps my insomnia to hear you drone on so.
