Political gems from all over to add some sparkle to your day
A brief op-ed
Ginni Thomas sent 29 texts to Mark Meadows urging a coup. She also urged 29 Arizona legislators to overturn the popular vote total in that state. She took $200,000 from someone who had a brief before her husband’s court, exploiting the SCOTUS for her financial gain. And her husband never recuses himself from rulings that encompass her perfidy. While he now whines that the court is a bit less friendly than it was before.
He stands as a fraud, a mockery of justice and completely unable to see what’s so obvious to everyone else: he sold out America. That’s his legacy. His partner in crimes sold us all out too.
Florida Congressional candidate Martin Hyde, explains who he is in two videos.
#1: threatening the lives of FBI agents.
#2: threatening a traffic cop doing her job properly.
Absolutely inexcusable conduct. He shouldn’t be in any government position ever. Sarasota and its environs is a modestly Republican district but surely they can do better than a royalist jerk like this.
Florida’s Governor DeSantis desperately wants to be president. He’s considered the front runner if Trump bows out. But his campaign is built out of the same dirty deeds common to the crookedest president this country has ever seen.
Now he’s targeting illegal voters for show trials. Almost nobody will feel sympathy for the 20 ex-cons he’s prosecuting. Florida recently passed a law that allows ex-felons to vote again. Most ex-felons. Except those convicted of murder or a sex crime.
The easiest way to prevent them from voting is to reject their voter registration forms. Instead, the 20 being targeted registered and voted in 2020. Most claim they had no idea they were breaking the law in doing so, thinking their voting rights had been restored. If convicted, the state’s likely to lock them up again and spend millions to support them for several years more.
They didn’t change the outcome of any election but that’s what DeSantis is trying to do: undercut faith in the election system. His efforts make Floridians no safer but he’ll spare no expense conducting these show trials for recidivists unaware they were doing anything wrong. Then DeSantis can proclaim these are proof that the 2020 vote was rigged… even though Republican candidates won all over the state in most races.
He’s preying on guys who looked forward to a second chance since they’re the easiest targets of all. Their lives and futures don’t matter when a twisted politician wants to play stupid political games.
Meanwhile, back in so-called ‘progressive’ Manhattan, prosecutors have worked out a plea deal with the Trump Organization’s Chief Financial Officer. All he’s guilty of is knowingly utilizing schemes to fraudulently get bank loans and to defraud the public till by not paying millions in owed taxes.
As part of the deal, he’ll serve 3 to 5 months at most on Rikers Island for the grand theft larcenies he was knowingly involved with.
Rikers is a terrible, violent hellhole that should exist in no society on the planet. It’s slated for closure in 2027. But Allen Weisselberg will likely ask to be placed in protective custody to ensure his survival. His meals could arrive cold or contain some foul things that convicts in the kitchen add to the recipes of people they revile. But he’s likely to survive his short stay.
It’s totally different from the outcome of a young Black male who can’t afford bail; and gets locked up for 3 years just awaiting a trial. Not a convict. Just a poor guy charged with a crime while protesting his innocence. Kalief Browder was alleged to have stolen a mere backpack. He didn’t cheat our society of millions, like the privileged wealthy CFO did.
Once again, we’re witnessing how justice works in this country still sniffing the fumes of an old claim about having the fairest justice system in the world. It’s pretty fair for a wealthy white male … and nobody else.
Out in Arizona, another candidate who’s a big remora feeding off of Trump supporters is happily endorsing a rather hate-filled guy.
This week, GOP Arizona gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake caused controversy when she endorsed Jarrin Jackson — an Oklahoma legislator who has proclaimed that "the Jews" are evidence that "evil exists" and that "Jews will go to hell."
Lake has caught heat before for associations with other anti-Semites. But hey, it’s a longstanding political tradition in American politics for bigots to lie about their bigotry.
Arizonans should find a better candidate to vote for in November.
The list of terrible candidates sponsored by the verbal endorsements of Trump is huge. And repulsive. More and more Americans are starting to catch on and signs are appearing of Trump endorsees losing ground. Advertising buys being shifted around seem to confirm that some of their Senate candidates have little likelihood of winning.
Senate Republicans, needing to gain only one seat there to have majority control, now see one of their incumbents in Utah fighting off a strong bid and also consider the Senate race of JD Vance in Ohio to be the one that can put them over the top. It appears they’ve given up on Dr. Oz and several others.
One guy who sees an even bleaker outcome in the Senate. That’d be the GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell.
WASHINGTON — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday downplayed expectations of Republicans capturing control of the Senate in the fall elections, describing “candidate quality” as an important factor.
“I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate. Senate races are just different — they're statewide, candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome,” he said in Florence, Kentucky, at a Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce luncheon when asked about his projection for the 2022 election.
“Right now, we have a 50-50 Senate and a 50-50 country, but I think when all is said and done this fall, we’re likely to have an extremely close Senate, either our side up slightly or their side up slightly.”
That’s a surprising admission that candidate quality matters, suggesting that Trump isn’t picking ‘the best people’.
Trump can run but he oughta hide with the growing list of indictments growing closer to him each day. And the transcript of Stephen Bannon describing their plan to steal the 2020 election is mind-boggling.
But Democrats in Oregon have another worry of their own.
The independent candidate for Governor, former Democrat Betsy Johnson, is also trying to fend off a hate accusation since she employed a hater of Blacks, Muslims and LGBTQ people for more than 8 years. And now she’s hiding her tax returns.
It’s believed by many that her donors include many Republicans. And the worry is she’ll split the Democratic vote which would benefit the Republican candidate. So what is Betsy Johnson hiding?
I’m gonna end this with the latest parody musical by Randy Rainbow.
