The Market for Fear is Drying Up
Immigrants, Secret Police, Protesters, Cocaine smugglers, 5 year old Minnesotans: my fear glands are on the fritz
(Some social media sites aren’t handling hyperlinks well so I’m putting more text into images to counter that. So copy/pasting a few words may not be possible but
copy/pasting the whole image is.)
I can’t wake up my fear today, so welcome to my Bed Talk. It’s mostly about Immigrants and a President. All stereotypes aside, did you know that immigrants are people?
(And note; Homeland Security said yesterday that they’ve arrested 3,000 in the past 6 weeks and they’re being held in Minnesota prisons and jails. A police chief checked it out and said Homeland Security is exaggerating the real numbers by 1,000. Homeland Security’s record of lying about protester’s hitting ICE cars with their cars has been demonstrated with videos repeatedly. So can we trust their numbers at all? I can’t.)
59% have been here longer than 15 years and 45% have been here 20 or more years, working and being good neighbors. Are we supposed to fear them and why? I think there’s a better way to make America greater.
For three months, the numbers of Americans opposed to the tactics of ICE have been growing and the latest poll, from yesterday, says Americans aren’t falling for the feary tales anymore. Apparently firing pepper spray in the faces of protesters is not so popular now that two of them have been permanently blinded.
So I think we need to consider what’s really going on with the President. He told us Venezuela was smuggling cocaine to the US and bombed more than 30 boats. Then he said there were 5 people, including Maduro, his wife and son, that they were going to arrest. They only seized two of them and there’s been not a word about the other 3 since. And he left Maduro’s vice president to handle things instead of the woman who actually won the 2024 election.
Then he pardoned the former president of Honduras was found guilty of making millions from drug traffickers including his brother who’s serving a life term. The pardon came after he served 6 months of a 45 year sentence. The two brothers were working with the Sinaloa (Mexico) drug cartel.
So does Trump really care about drug smuggling or what? Nobody else in the White House knew about the pardon till it was done. Now he says he took over Venezuela for its oil.
That’s not the only errant behavior he’s exhibited in recent months. He was just in Davos where he gave a speech. And said some NATO members called him ‘Daddy.” He also said Iceland three times when he meant Greenland. There are physical signs as well. Some doctors think he had a stroke or some mini strokes last summer. A droopy mouth corner, several cognitive tests, the increased times he’s fallen asleep in public meetings, the increase of logorrhea in his speech ramblings are all consistent with that diagnosis.
There’s also the bruises on the backs of both hands. Despite the two explanations given, those could be as simple as actina purpura or the use of an IV drip. Or it could be as serious as adult onset leukemia.
Something is going on and his staff is trying to hide it. His mental status has been crumbling all this past year. I suspect his staff and billionaire backers are trying to keep him afloat till November for political reasons, hoping not to lose their Congressional majorities. They don’t think Vance has the same influence.
Heather Cox Richardson says Vance’s trip to Minnesota had him walking back previous statements he’d made about Renee Good and ICE immunity because the White House is aware they’re slipping badly in the polls. She also thinks Americans standing up in protest of ICE’s lawlessness is winning and we all must stand up to stave off the destruction of our democracy. Greg Sargent agrees.
