There wasn't much news last week
Not much important stuff in the news last week. (On Friday noon, I had this 90% written when my desktop died. Spent $400 to get it fixed but it’s still not right. The repair shop’s been closed and reopens this afternoon. My apologies for the disruption of the newsletters).
1) Investors in the speculative financial markets continue to take a hit. But most have homes. They aren’t struggling to make rent. Dips and corrections are just how a healthy market functions. What goes up forever is over-speculation, leading to spectacular crashes. Investors will be fine.
See? No story. Nobody died. The market will rebound. It’s annoying but temporary.
2) The biggest baby food manufacturing facility - in Michigan - had to shut down because of flooding caused by recent severe storms. But there’s enough formula on shelves to handle current demand till the factory’s repaired.
See? No story. Not a single baby harmed or even annoyed.
3) A congressman downplayed a tour he gave of the US Capitol but some in the group came back the next day to join the mob that was threatening to kill the Vice President, Speaker of the House, several other elected officials and take over multiple buildings. So the coup failed because the Capitol Police successfully hid Pence and others. But why did the tour occur since tours were suspended during the pandemic? And why were folks in the tour group taking pictures of different doors and hallways unlike other tour groups prior to covid?
Why was Ginny Thomas involved? She went from a former cult member to an anti-cult activist and now appears to favor the cult of QAnon. Visibly so. She’s looking forward (her words) to testifying before the Jan 6 Committee so she can explain that it’s nothing like they think and everyone can just calm down.
And the current brouhaha convinced Justice Sotomayor to issue a statement saying Justice Thomas is a really sweet guy who cares about everyone.
So see? Team Normal prevented democracy from getting torn to shreds and if that’s true, where’s the news? Of course everyone on Team Normal was just another mook for their crime boss till last week but we’re supposed to forget that because they love to insult our intelligence like that. Nothing to see here folks so move along.
It’s mere coincidence that the lawyer who invented the Steal the Election strategy, after seeing the coup fail, asked Trump for a pardon. Innocent people who haven’t been charged with a crime ask for pardons every day, don’t they?
I’m sure Ginny can explain all that away too.
4) Walmart decided to stop selling Mike Lindell’s My Pillow and he totally wet his pillow crying about it on social media. He claimed Walmart was cancelling him, like he’s a travel conveyance or an appointment. The thought never crossed his mind that he’s only been successfully selling just an overpriced pillow that garnered extra sales because he donated a lot of money and words to support a crime boss.
I’m guessing the WalMart board tried the pillow and realized it was just a freaking lousy pillow. No news in that.
5) There’s the War on Ukraine by one of DJ Trump’s biggest supporters, the former head of the KGB. That’s not going so well, sucking up US resources with no end in sight, much like every war in the past 77 years. How can that be news?
6) Okay, well, there is this minor news item: after the last defeated president killed the nuclear fuel moratorium with Iran, they accelerated their enrichment program. Now they possess some fuel that’s 90% enriched (It only takes less than 15% enriched to use for nuclear power. Bottom line: they’re now weeks - not months - away from having a functioning nuclear missile.
Which means there’s 38 known heavily fortified sites that are of grave concern to Israel. We could be closing in on a nuclear conflict between the two.
And pretty much all our competitors, opponents and foes are well aware of the divisions in the US. They can exploit them online, or off, trying to drive us into a civil war that’s already on the precipice here. Can we sustain inflation, the War in Ukraine and a possible China/Taiwan war?
Oh yeah, the sideshow of proving over and over and over that Trump’s an anti-American traitor and criminal kinda keeps the deadlier news off your TV screens.
Maybe it’s not made your news stream till now. But now you’ve heard it.
America is so divided and weakened that the criminal class of politicians formerly known as the GOP has left us vulnerable to another civil war AND another world war that could end human life on the planet.
Which might be a good thing for the planet. It’s what this planet eventually does to all invasive species. So yeah, that’s the serious news from last week.
