Vacation is over, and..... some recap
Got some badly needed time off with many loved ones through the Turkey Day holiday. We were and are very thankful for loads of stuff. But while I was gone…
Media Rant
I hear this Trump guy lunches with suspected ‘not nice’ people.
But again, the bigots are not the news here. The failure of the media is the point. Call things and people what they are. Words and definitions are critically important to journalism just as it is for authors and poets. It’s called the Fourth Estate for a reason and it often fails to meet that standard.
Try “The leading advocate for overturning legal elections denies awareness that his lunch partner is also anti-semitic. And if you believe that I have a bridge to sell you.”
Or: “The meeting of people willing to create deadly disasters where human lives are endangered or turned against each other in a civil war has to be stopped if done by Bin Laden and Al-Qaida. Or done by a strange ex-president and his cohorts. They kill. Because both groups are terrorists.”
I came back from my vacation to a Twitter exploding with racists, anti-vaxxers, conspiracy nuts and the frustrated election thieves that Trump has long carefully groomed. So the media should stop referring to Elon Musk’s claim to be a champion of free speech advocacy. He’s cultivating more white supremacy, more anti-science disinformation, more inaccurate history, more election and insurrection denial with his overt dogwhistles to violence-promoting extremists who damage our citizens, our nation’s security and the standing of the USA in the world. From the moment of his homophobic comment on the violent attack on Paul Pelosi, it’s been clear that Musk’s intentions are not good.
Now anyone calling out Trump supporters or Musk himself, gets suspended from Twitter. Speech is not so free in Elon’s new digs.
The majority of the adults in the US knows what’s happening. The media should be making it clear to the radical extremists that we’re onto them instead of softening the impact with diplomacy, false equivalency and fake ‘balance’.
Heather Cox Richardson gets it. Why can’t the NY Times and Washington Post?
Karen Bass was elected mayor of Los Angeles’ 3.8 million residents. She’s responsible for more people than 22 governors represent in states with smaller populations. But the US has yet to elect a Black woman governor in any state at all. Shameful.
Women now hold 28% of the seats in the House of Representatives. Which is also a national disgrace since women are the majority of the country’s population. And women voters prevented the Red Wave the GOP had taken for granted and had convinced the mainstream media was inevitable.
The House is barely under the control of Republicans. If they’d lost 4 more races, Democrats would still have majority control. Kevin McCarthy is pandering to the most extreme and violent people in the country as he struggles to become the next House Speaker. So he plans to pull Democrats off of committee assignments and has specifically targeted women of color in his promised purge. He also plans to conduct endless investigations into Hunter Biden, who holds no public position. As most liberals and moderates support prosecuting people who’ve committed a crime, most are okay with an investigation, but not an ongoing 2 year series of investigative reruns designed as a distraction from Republican wrongdoing.
It’s notable that to date, not one shred of evidence has emerged to indicate Joe Biden has broken a law that requires impeachment or prosecution. Wouldn’t it be a nice change if Congressional Republicans actually passed some representative legislation that benefits the 92% of the country who aren’t millionaires?
As a side note, Elon Musk announced yesterday he was gonna back DeSantis for prez if he runs. So the Florida gov can count on massive funding and, if elected, will be the usual waterboy for the billionaire class, which is all that the GOP knows how to do any more.
Ask yourself: what human right - from suffrage, to free speech/press/religion/etc - or what financial gain or opportunity - retirement/healthcare/education/etc - has the GOP done for you in the past 35 years?
Of interest:
Sounds like you really can ‘have it your way’, at a McDonald’s in Atlanta.
I have to cut this short. Unpleasant news just arrived. I should be more current going forward.
